(ECNS)-- Since the outbreak of the epidemic in Guangzhou, South China’s Guangdong Province in April, Wu Yanfang has been acting as a pioneer in local nucleic acid testing services.
She is a new nurse at Baiyun District Maternal and Child Health Hospital and was dispatched to do nucleic acid sampling in a community.
“I am young and a newcomer in the hospital, so my colleagues always take extra care of me during the testing. But I want to prove myself as a qualified nurse in the community work,” said the girl born in the 2000s.
Wu was once ordered to conduct nucleic acid sampling by herself for the environment of a lockdown hotel with a power outage.
“It was already dark when I went there, and I completed a 20-point sampling task inside,” said Wu.
Wu is full of enthusiasm for her work. Every time when there is a medical support task, she puts her hands up first.
Over the past few days, Wu and her colleagues have been busy with conducting nucleic acid testing for people with exposure risks to COVID-19.
Wearing protective clothing, they had to walk through the twists and turns of the villages, and it was common to get soaked with sweat.
"The more work I did, the heavier my footsteps became. Sometimes I was so tired that I didn't even have the strength to break a swab, " Wu said.
Wu has already mastered the sampling technique. As a post-00 youth, she is valiant and determined.
"I hope I can perform well and help more people with my profession," she said.
"The epidemic made me more mature and confident," the girl added.
Fan xingxing, also born in the 2000, is a nurse at Nanfang Hospital (Baiyun Branch). He said he felt “more qualified” to celebrate International Nurses' Day this year.
Fan once was responsible for taking nucleic acid sampling from self-quarantine personnel in lockdown areas, where he needs to be on standby 24 hours a day.
“Wherever there is a need, I will be dispatched there. I often work for five or six hours in a row," said Fan.
To fulfill the heavy work, they have to refrain from eating, drinking and going to the restroom to save time.
“Everyone is persistent, including me! I am full of strength,” he added.
Doing nucleic acid sampling is intensive and demands patience, but it has made him fully-fledged, said the young man who stood out in helping the city through this challenging period.
